The Ventura Film Festival serves as an unrestricted genre international film festival that promotes recognition of conservation issues such as woodland and marine conservation and recovery, via a yearly film showcase and corresponding activities. The Ventura Film Festival began in 2004 and has presented countless films, regularly over 200 films during summer months, and has drawn recognition from the global film industry. Significant highlights have been showcasing renowned filmmaker Dylan O'Neil, the initial world champion surfers Peter "PT" Townend as well as Ian Cairns, four-time world champion Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu/MMA competitor martial arts icon Fabio Leopoldo, and the 50-year anniversary of West Side Story, which involved hosting the entire award-winning cast of West Side Story, encompassing Academy Award winner/Golden Globe recipient George Chakiris along with Golden Globe winner/Academy Award nominated Russ Tamblyn. The founder and executive director of the Ventura Film Festival was selected to take part, along with many of Hollywood's top stars, in the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story and Hollywood's footprint/handprint ceremony for Oscar winners Rita Moreno, George Chakiris, and legendary actor Golden Globe winner Russ Tamblyn at the historic Chinese Theater in Hollywood. This occasion also served as the official BluRay debut by Fox and MGM of the beloved West Side Story, which is broadly regarded by critics here and fans as the most exceptional musical of all time.
